After 14 years of presenting theatre created by young artists, the Paprika Festival is launching its 2015 Festival Season with an exciting new initiative. The Intersection is a new conference event at The Theatre Centre for young and emerging theatre artists under 30, featuring workshops, professional networking, a debate series and a festival kick-off party featuring acclaimed Toronto band Birds of Bellwoods - all for $15!

THE DETAILS:
2 PM : Registration Drop by registration to sign up for the workshops of your choice! Registration will be first come, first serve, so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot at the workshops you would like to attend.
2 - 3 PM : Roundtables Join special guests for coffee and facilitated conversations about the arts today. Topics include: How to approach travelling internationally as a working artist, how to balance independent and commercial or large scale projects, how to start producing your own work, and how to seek and nurture meaningful artistic mentorships.
3 - 8:30 PM : Workshops Hone your artistic and your professional survival skills with exciting workshops led by top industry professionals! From grant writing to site-specific creation to meditation, this workshop series will help prepare any emerging artist for the future. Attendees will choose three of the following six 90-minute workshops (see schedule for times):
- Simon Bloom leads The Digital Toolkit for Early Career Artists: Web Design, Social Media and More. Bloom is the co-Artistic Director of Outside the March, digital dramaturge for the SpiderWebShow, and a professional web developer.
- Michael Caldwell leads Bouncing as Practice: Movement for Performance. Caldwell is a Dora-nominated, Toronto-based choreographer and performer. He has originated roles for many of Canada's esteemed choreographers and companies, and has performed in Europe, Asia, Australia, in the United States and across Canada.
- Guillermo Verdecchia leads Meditation for Artists: Finding Focus. Verdecchia is a director, performer, and Governor General award-winning playwright.
- Aaron Willis leads Creating Site-Specific Theatre. Willis is an actor, director, educator, and co-founding artistic director of Convergence Theatre
- Pat Bradley & Margo Charlton lead Effective Grant Writing. Bradley is the Theatre, Major Organizations, and Compass officer for the Ontario Arts Council; Charlton is the Theatre officer for the Toronto Arts Council
- Lisa Karen Cox leads Teacher Act: Weaving Theatre & Movement into the Lives of Children & Young People. Lisa is an actor, singer, mover, and artist-educator, living a split life as an artist and certified teacher.
8:30 - 10:30 PM : Debate Series This debate series by young artists covers controversies in today's theatre environment. Topics include: the ethics of legitimizing work by unpaid artists, the ramifications of the trend towards artists as creative entrepreneurs, and the effect of our current state of theatre criticism on the quality of Canadian art. The debates will be moderated by established professionals, and will encourage active audience participation.
10:30 PM - Late : Concert & Party Party in the mainspace with dancing, cash bar, Birds of Bellwoods and surprise art events! Currently based in Toronto, Birds of Bellwoods are the city folk quartet with a natural sound and an urban heart. Known for rustic melodies and haunting lyricism, they are Stevie Joffe (Mandolin/Lead Vocals), Adrian Morningstar (Guitar/Vocals), Chris Blades (Banjo/Vocals), and Kintaro Akiyama (Upright Bass/Vocals).
